Hydroponics in a Box
Commercial food production is a major industry in our region but is limited by the short growing season. Hydroponics creates an alternative farming opportunity by utilizing a new containerized growing system for fresh greens, lettuce, and herbs 12 months of the year. Join us on Tuesday, February 21st, to learn more about hydroponics and an energy efficient growing system, self-contained inside a 40’ insulated shipping container. Containerized Growing System (CSS) is an industrial grade farm, optimized for high yield, year round production. Produce is grown on-site, virtually eliminating the expensive and lengthy supply chain. CGS is designed in Alaska and manufactured in Washington. The turnkey hydroponic system contains everything needed to grow fresh produce. This system can produce 450+ pieces of high quality produce weekly and can be placed anywhere with a stable electric service and potable water. The computer controlled environment delivers consistent production year round. The predictable and customizable harvest schedule significantly reduces the amount of produce loss. In spite of its tiny footprint, a single CGS will supply your business with anywhere from 23,000 to 46,000 leafy greens or herbs per year, depending on the internal configuration. Everything grown in a CGS is safe, clean, and pesticide free. Vernon Economic Development Association will be hosting Dan Perpich, founder of Vertical Harvest Hydroponics, to lead the discussion at the Food Enterprise Center, 1201 North Main Street in Viroqua on Tuesday, February 21st. Plan to attend either the 3:00 pm or 6:00 pm session. The same information will be presented at both sessions. Everyone is welcome.
